Dear Dr. Hall:
letter of November 29. 1971- Our Vancouver Island Section Lecture Schedule proved unexpectedly difficult to coordinate with other groups interested in your subject. We would be pleased to offer a #100 honorarium for each lecture plus the expenses mentioned in my last letter.
It was originally intended that during your two-day
visit you would address the Vancouver Island Section and the following day the Vancouver Section of the Chemical Institute of Canada. However, the only dates which could include the Vancouver Section would be February 14 and 15 which days are I believe not possible for you. In the month you suggested, the University of British Columbia would be interested in your speaking in their Chemistry Department General Seminar Programme. U.B.C. would prefer April 24-25 but April 27-28 is possible. In each case the first meeting would be in Victoria at 5 P.M. and the second at U.B.C. in Vancouver durlngTne following afternoon, if you will give me your choice, I~wiil begin making arrangements unless you prefer to make your own travel reservations.
Again please accept my apologies for the delay.

Dear Dr. Hall:
The local sections of the Chemical Institute of Canada attempt to feature a distinguished speaker at each of the monthly winter meetings. We would be very pleased if you would address two of th^stg_jne_eting;s on consecutive days - one in Victoria and one in Vancouver, B. C. Since both sections are composed of a mixture of university (U.of Victoria, Simon Praser, and British Columbia) and industrial chemists a topic of general rather than narrowly specialized interest would be most compatable with the members varied backgrounds. Since no one in this region works with ultra high pressures or temperatures an explanation of the techniques involved and the behaviour of materials under these conditions would be most useful. Certainly the application of these studies to the synthesis of diamonds would be fascinating to us all.
If you are able to come we would of course pay all expenses - economy air fair Provo to Vancouver and Victoria. plus accomodations and meals. Would you tell us what honorarium you might expect in addition to the above? Our meetings are generally Monday or Tuesday evenings but can be changed to any convenient night though prefer/ably not the weekend. Available dates would, be late January, late March or anytime in February or^grll^; Again though, we schedule our meetings at our speakers' convenience.

Dear Dr. Barr:
Thank you for your invitaion to address two meetings of the
Chemical Institute of Canada. I will be happy to do this and would
suggest Thursday and Friday, April 27 and 28, 1972. With regard to yor
your question on the honorarium, I would suggest $2 00 total for the two
lectures. The travel reimbursement you suggest would be satisfactory.
The talk would be geared tobbe of interest to a general audience.
You might entitle the talk "Diamonds and High Pressure" or "The
Science of High Pressure". In any event, I will describe how very
high pressures are generated, tell somethihg of the synthesis of diamond
and give an overview of the types of things that are being done with
high pressures. I would use regliiar J5mm slides for illustrations.
